Join us, as our teacher, Srijana, shows us how to make taato pani, and choela from her kitchen in Kathmandu. Prava and Anne will discuss the culture, history and uses of these two traditional Himalayan offerings. Taato pani has been used for centuries as a traditional health remedy throughout South Asia for various medicinal purposes such as an anti-inflammatory and to boost the immune system.

​The country of Nepal is now on lockdown due to a second wave of the COVID-19 Pandemic. The main purpose of the lock down is to break the chain of COVID-19 virus in Nepal. The lock down will be stricter starting May 6th, and extend one more week if the cases continue to rise. In urban regions, banks and offices will only operate with 1/4 their normal employees. Markets and groceries will only be open in the mornings, but emergency services are exempt from the restrictions. The government is conducting COVID-19 awareness through public announcements, speaker systems, and increasing isolation centers. The government is also closing industries that use oxygen, due to a lack of it for COVID patients. The government has brought in medicine used to treat COVID for patients from Bangladash and promised additional compensation to front line workers.

AO is well positioned to support distanced learning for those impacted by the lock down through its ability to teach with new technology installed in our Computer Learning Environment Centers. Students can continue their studies as we attempt to minimize the impact on their daily education. "Nepal is much better prepared than other countries in the area. ​Meet Ton Roelandse, our new Board Member in the USA ​

​Ton Roelandse is a senior thought leader who draws from his extensive track record as Enterprise Architect, Process Architect, IT Leader, Program Manager, Network Operations Manager, various C-suite Advisory roles, and Interim CTO experiences in industry verticals such as Financial Services, Healthcare, and Utilities across 15 countries. AfterTon mentored interns who were denied their internships in the summer of 2020, he felt compelled to give more and join the AO project as a Board member. Ton is based in Miami where he lives with his family.

Few years ago, it was a dream but now Altruistic Odyssey in Nepal is a reality. As a  member of AO, I would like to share the success story of the registration of AO in Nepal. For more than 5 years, the Altruistic Odyssey team has been coordinating with the local community in the rural area of Nepal to help and improve the educational sector and other areas. AO has provided Nepalese people in rural areas with technological tools needed to improve the educational system. These remote areas are not very easy to reach. With the dedication and determination of our local community team, this has been a successful trip for years. Our dedicated local team now lead by Jhabindra Subedi, our Chairman, Pasang Sherpa, our treasurer, Pramila Bhandari our Secretary, Binod Tamang, Image and Communication, and Prakash Shrestha, our coordinator in Nepal work with us and takes care of most of the needs of these people who have no access to a modern education.

Our Continued Impact at the Shechen School ​

A few years ago, AO installed a computer room in the Shechen School in Nepal. Today, the room has been proven very useful as Principal Jhabindra Subedi and the teachers have all experimented with distance learning and have adapted very quickly to the new context created by pandemic. ​2019: Year in Reflection
2019 was a very significant year for Altruistic Odyssey, with many milestones being achieved. After four years of varied altruistic work in Nepal, we finally found our market niche; last year culminated in a trip to the Computer Learning Environment Center in Sotang to see how our students and teachers were faring using the pedagogic approach we’d introduced. After seeing how the approach had evolved in the real world, some adjustments were made, and the model is stronger than ever before.

2020 will allow us to prepare our second Computer Learning Environment Center with Kathmandu University this spring. More updates to come. Stay tuned!

Our vision is to bridge the increasing technological gaps that reinforce economic division in developing economies, with a geographic focus in the remote regions of Nepal. Our plan is to deliver 100 CLECs across those remote areas over the next 10 years. With your support, we are proud of the work done so far, and I’m immensely excited to see the new heights we’ll achieve in 2020! 

​We love our Supporters! Meet David Bernard.
​David Bernard is a champion of Altruistic Odyssey and a physical education educator based in Doha, Qatar. As a constant supporter of our communication team and a marathon runner, he took his family to hike to the Amadablam base camp this week at 16,000 feet, with stunning views of the Everest and Lotse peaks of the Himalayan Mountains. Along the way, they stopped at the Deboche nunnery that AO helped rebuild in 2016, recreating the kitchen and dining room for the 10 Nepali and Tibetan nuns who live there.

​Fall Fundraising Dinner: SUCCESS!
Thanks to all of our supporters who came out to our fundraising dinner last September. Together we raised more than $7000 in revenues which fully funded the Sotang Public Campus computer lab. Now the local students can access the internet and basic programs like Word and Excel. This learning environment will help them grow to their full potential by putting valuable information at their fingertips in a way that was previously never possible. It will help prepare these highly capable but under-resourced people for future job opportunities and increase their quality of life.
