A TREK TO GOKYO RI IN THE EVEREST REGION, NEPAL
Support Ed Antoine, President of Digital Bridges 4 Nepal, and David Martin, a DB4N volunteer and Nepal-lover as they attempt to collect additional funds for a project in remote areas of Nepal.
Their quest is to reach Gokyo Ri (5360m-17,585ft) through a 12 day trek into the Everest National Park.
You can encourage them through your donations.
Digital Bridges 4 Nepal's mission is to Strengthen Communities through Education, and we have already installed 4 Computer Learning Environment Centers in Nepal, with the ambition to install 100 of these in the next 8 years. This Fundraiser will help finance 2 projects in partnership with the Nepali communities installed in the USA. It is critical for us to demonstrate the impact our collaborative space (CLEC) has in remote areas, allowing the students and communities to be connected and learn through different gateways.
Our partnership with Kathmandu University is vital to demonstrate the impact the CLEC has, hence the necessity to quickly achieve 10 CLECs installed, hence our trip to allow us to accelerate with 2 new CLECs in the first quarter of 2023, and 3 to 4 more in 2023.
What is our Adventure going to look like? We would like you to understand where we go and the challenge it is for us.
Gokyo Lake is located in the Sagarmatha National Park, home to Mount Everest, and Gokyo Ri (5,360m) is at the same altitude as Everest Base Camp.

Walking hours: 4-9 hours per day
Maximum Altitude: 5,360m (17,585ft)

Our most urgent project will take place in Nepal in the rural community of Thonche at an altitude of 6,500 feet, close to Mount Maneslu (26,804 feet) in the Himalayan region.
The region was devastated by an unexpected monsoon flash flood. The waters caused landslides that swept away houses, bridges, and numerous lives. We were developing our Computer Learning Environment Center (CLEC) in this very community, and were delayed by this.
Now, as news of road paving projects and new infrastructure building endeavors are surfacing, there has been a new found push to reinitiate the CLEC. The local community wishes to have it completed within the next 4 months. And we wish to move forward with our mission to reduce the technological and educational gap in remote and rural areas of Nepal. |
TAKE A LOOK AT OUR JUNE 19TH HIKE AND SKETCH EVENT!
"DB has fun events that are great to meet people, network and build connections." - Bhaikunta Chaulaga
"There is always an interesting mix of people to connect with." -Eloise Antoine
"The event was fun, relaxed, and interactive."-Prava Adhikari
These are just a few words from individuals who joined us at Bear Mountain on June 19th for our Hike and Sketch Event.
The event was fun, relaxed, and a rousing success. We were blessed with a beautiful, sunny day for the event and ~60 attendees came out to enjoy the sun and sky with us. It was a day in which people of many ages and social classes came together for the education of the youth of Nepal, and got some good exercise, enjoyed the beauty of the Hudson Valley and learned a new hobby from skilled artists.
Our 60 attendees had the option of three trails: a short one around the lake, a longer ~45 min one along the historic Appalachian Trail and a gorgeous view of the Hudson Valley, and lastly, a challenging 2 hr trail with an amazing view of both the Hudson Valley and the Manhattan Skyline at the peak.
One of the attendees, our board member, Prava Adhikari, hiked the shortest trail with artistic guide, Stefano Imberto. When asked what her favorite part of the event was she stated that it was, "Well organized, relaxing and a fun interactive mix of different generations, from different social classes, from different areas of the world. A blend of people with different cultures, food and beliefs."
Another of the attendees was Dr. Bhaikunta Chaulaga, whom attended the event with his wife. Bhaikunta and his wife hiked the medium trail, which was two hours. When asked why he enjoys Digital Bridges 4 Nepal events, he responded, "DB has a variety of different campaigns and events which are always fun and eventful. The target of the hike is to grow funds and make connections for DB, as well as have some fun."

TASTES OF THE HIMALAYAS: TO YOUR HEALTH AND HAPPINESS
Did you take part in our free, virtual Nepali Cooking event on May 12th?? If not, you missed out! It was a rousing success! Srijana joined us from her kitchen all the way in Kathmandu to show the wonders of Nepali culinary magic. She taught the attendees how to make a Taato Pani, a traditional Nepali health drink, and Choeli, a Newari BBQ spice rub. Attendees were also given the recipes so they can make the recipes at home. However, it is not a complete loss! You did not completely miss the opportunity! If you would like to try either of these recipes or view the recorded event, please register below and both the video and recipes will be sent to you!
