“We are in the digital age now. Students are learning on their own, aided by technology. We used to solely rely on teachers to acquire knowledge. Now, students can learn independently with the help of CLEC.”
Khagendra Khawas
Principal, Shree Sarvajanik Ma Vi, Biratnagar
“Due to the CLEC installed in 2019, we have doubled our number of students in 2021.”
Ishwor Timalsina
Sotang Public Campus Head, Solukhumbu District, Nepal
“By embracing the CLEC, students at Janahit Ma. Vi. (Secondary School) [have] gained
numerous advantages. They can develop their knowledge, enhance their skills, and stay
competitive in today's world.
In particular, the practical subject of basic civil engineering [taught in CLEC room to
students] from grades 9 to 12 [have] benefited them greatly. Students can utilize
computer software like AUTOCAD for drafting and designing 2D/3D models, enabling
them to excel in their studies.
Additionally, the CLEC room serves as a self-study center when a teacher is absent,
offering valuable learning space for independent exploration. We strongly believe that
classes like CLEC are essential in today's world, equipping students with the necessary
skills to survive and thrive in the competitive market.
Bikal Sherchan
State Parliament Member, Mustang
“CLEC is not like a regular class because of the addition of technology. Once the students
sit at the table and face the screens, they become excited and curious to learn. Because
the main goal of the CLEC is to teach students using technology, the teachers are also
very excited and eager to teach using this new technology.”
Ram Chandra Adhikari
Principal, Shree Janahit Ma Vi, Mustang
“The thing I like about the CLEC class is group learning which has helped me to make
some new friends here. Learning in the CLEC will help to find employment opportunities
in the future due to its modern-advanced technology.”
Junu Grunug
Student, Shree Prakash Jyoti Ma Vi, Manang
“I used the computer for the first time in school when I was in grade 8. And I learned
about new things by watching videos in the CLEC. When the teacher is teaching using
the CLEC room, we understand better by watching the videos on the TV.”
Laxmi Magar
Student, Shree Prakash Jyoti Ma Vi, Manang
“In the CLEC room, we can work either individually or in groups. We can do group work
in CLEC which will be easier and we can learn from our friends also. Students will be
better off using computers. And if they don't understand something from the teachers,
they can come here and search on YouTube, Google, or Chat GPT and develop their
knowledge.”
Gagan Budhathoki
Student, Shree Janahit High School, Mustang
“I am thinking how we can use it to take more benefit from it. We have 8 wards, 35
schools, a lot of women's groups, youth clubs and farmers groups. We are planning to
upgrade their skills and knowledge with the help of CLEC.”
Lok Prasad Banjara
Chairman, Bhimsenthapa Rural Municipality, Gorkha
“The importance of our culture and tradition is reducing due to modernization and we
should preserve it. We should teach moral studies to the students.
The CLEC approach helps students to work in collaboration. When they work in a group
the source of knowledge is more; the thing I might not know may be known by their
friends and they could also find it on Google.”
Ramchandra Lamichhane
Teacher, Shree Siddhakali High School, Gorkha
“When we research our subject in the CLEC class, we learn more than what the teachers
have taught us in class due to the internet and other technological facilities. I am happy to
use those facilities. If we want to know about something we go to the CLEC class and do
the research by ourselves.”
Sudip Lamichhane
Student, Shree Siddhakali High School, Gorkha
NEWSLETTER JUNE 2024 - STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES THROUGH EDUCATION
JUNE 2024 Initially, I asked the same question. Then it dawned on me that the right answer was “why not,” for DB4N is quietly making revolutionary changes by installing Collaborative Learning Environment Center (CLEC) in public schools in Nepal. Public schools in Nepal suffer from a lack of resources, inadequate training for teachers, and overall poor quality of education. Education is almost always imparted through the lecture method, which research has shown isn’t very effective. No doubt, the dropout rates are high and these students perform poorly in board exams. |
NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2023 - A NEW YEAR AND A NEW BOARD FOR DB4N as Ed passes the torch!
01/02/2024 Eight years ago, I asked Pasang Sherpa what he needed after the earthquake in Nepal; I had no idea that this question would lead to a real contribution to the country's education system. Today, Digital Bridges 4 Nepal's (DB4N) partnership with Kathmandu University School of Education is thriving, our newest Collaborative Learning Environment Center (CLEC) will be in the new magnificent university building, and we have co-created a short course giving credits to teachers and principals in their continued modern education pursuit. |
