NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2024 - IMPACT OF CLEC ON TRANSFORMING THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
SEPTEMBER 2024 When Digital Bridges 4 Nepal (DB4N) asked me to contribute to their newsletter, I knew I wanted to share a personal experience working with the Collaborative Learning Environment Center (CLEC). During the past year, I had an opportunity to visit schools where the CLEC approach has been implemented and document its impact on teaching and learning. |
NEWSLETTER JUNE 2024 - STRENGTHENING COMMUNITIES THROUGH EDUCATION
JUNE 2024 Initially, I asked the same question. Then it dawned on me that the right answer was “why not,” for DB4N is quietly making revolutionary changes by installing Collaborative Learning Environment Center (CLEC) in public schools in Nepal. Public schools in Nepal suffer from a lack of resources, inadequate training for teachers, and overall poor quality of education. Education is almost always imparted through the lecture method, which research has shown isn’t very effective. No doubt, the dropout rates are high and these students perform poorly in board exams. |
NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2023 - A NEW YEAR AND A NEW BOARD FOR DB4N as Ed passes the torch!
01/02/2024 Eight years ago, I asked Pasang Sherpa what he needed after the earthquake in Nepal; I had no idea that this question would lead to a real contribution to the country's education system. Today, Digital Bridges 4 Nepal's (DB4N) partnership with Kathmandu University School of Education is thriving, our newest Collaborative Learning Environment Center (CLEC) will be in the new magnificent university building, and we have co-created a short course giving credits to teachers and principals in their continued modern education pursuit. |
NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 2023 - New Project in Festive season!
08/30/2023 Our First-ever Community Learning Environment Center(CLEC) in Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality, Gorkha. The DB4N team and DB4N's implementing partner, Action for Nepal(AFN), visited Bhimsen Thapa Rural Municipality, Gorkha to scout and discuss funds for the project. With the help of technical staff, we did the exact measurement of the room for the Collaborative Learning Environment Center(CLEC) so that Saugat, our furniture partner, could build a digital design of the room with furniture and other equipment that will be in the room. |
NEWSLETTER AUGUST 2023 - Meet the students and teachers in Jomsom using the CLEC
09/05/2023 Meet Tsering Bhuti Gurung, a student in grade 12. When we first met with Tsering in the CLEC, she was anxious and nervous to talk with us, but slowly she gathered courage to speak openly and confidently. She loves using computers. She is amazed by the design and structure of the CLEC where she is really enjoying learning. She is a Civil Engineering student. The CLEC makes it fun to learn and better understand her subject. |

9/21/2021 Re-engaging projects when challenges occur and adapting to the situation is what we call “Resilient Delivery”!When we installed our flagship CLEC at Kathmandu University in August 2020, we felt that by this time, things would be back to normal despite the pandemic. Well, they are not for many of us in the world. The pandemic is here to stay at least for a while longer (with its unfortunate resilient new variants as well). |
