Prava Adhikari
Prava is a native Nepali. She was born and raised in the suburban area of Capital city of Nepal. Fluent in 4 languages Nepali, Hindi, Newari [a local dialect} and English.
Received MA degree in Humanities and Social Science from Tribhuvan University Kathmandu, Nepal. Worked as a language coordinator and a cross-culture trainer for Peace Corps in Nepal and Pitzer College Study Aboard Program for years in Nepal. Skilled in finding out the communication tools that people need in their daily lives varying from communicating with family members to people at workplace especially when they go to different countries with a little or no previous knowledge or experiences of a new culture and people.
Successfully taught about Nepali culture and prepared many Peace Corps volunteers and college students who had different cultural values and beliefs and made them comfortable. Moved to the USA over a decade. After I moved to the states my cultural horizon broadened.
Involved in some Nepali organizations based in New York. Developed courses for English language, Nanny Training that included cultural knowledge, work culture, interpersonal relationships, and other important aspects that are vital for living and working in the USA. Developed Nepali language curriculum for Nepali-American Children and teaching them the lessons.
Helped empower many Nepali Women by inspiring them through classes, sharing sessions, stories. I won VISAC award for doing this. Community Interpreter in the Nepali Language. Interpret in various settings like medical, social and legal etc.
Freelance Childcare Provider, take care of children from birth to Adolescents. Helping them in social, emotional and physical development.
Joined Digital Bridges 4 Nepal in 2018 as a Board member. Life changing trips to remote villages in Nepal while working with Peace Corps volunteers and college students, gave an in-depth understanding of the need of people living in rural Nepal and motivation to help them in some areas like health, education, and preservation of culture.
Strongly believe local communities are champions of their needs and the solutions to the problems. Empowering communities is a priority for substantial development. By doing we can continue a Balanced Harmony with Nature as it has been carried from generations to generations.
