JEEVAN GURUNG- INTERIM SECRETARY
Jeevan’s chance encounter with Edmond Antoine in 2023 made him realize that he had a lot to offer in furthering DB4N’s goal of reducing technological and educational gaps in Nepal. He was especially taken in by DB4N’s emphasis on using technology and student-centered pedagogy to uplift the rural and underserved students of Nepal. Jeevan has extensive experience in higher education in Nepal and the United States. He started his teaching career at Shishu Niketan High School in Pokhara, Nepal, and then moved on to teach at Prithvi Narayan Campus, taught and administered Pokhara Engineering College for four years, and was an Assistant Professor of English at Pokhara University before he moved to the U.S. to pursue his Ph.D. from Drew University. After completing his Ph.D. in 2012, he has been serving as a Professor of English at SUNY Adirondack in Upstate New York. As such, he brings significant academic experience to the DB4N team.
Beyond his experience as an educator who has always practiced collaborative learning in his classroom, Jeevan also has been an active member of the diasporic Nepali community. He has served as a former member of the Board of Directors and is an advisor of the Albany New York Nepalese Society. This organization works to preserve and promote Nepali culture and Nepali diasporic interests in the New York State Capital region. Jeevan also occasionally writes on Nepali Diasporic topics and concerns. His articles have been published in the local New York online publications.
